Apple Intelligence cleared to launch in China — powered by Alibaba's Qwen

China's Cyberspace Administration approved Apple's generative AI services on July 15. In China, Apple Intelligence will run on Alibaba's Qwen model across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision devices instead of the ChatGPT integration used elsewhere. No launch date has been announced yet.

What it means The biggest consumer AI rollout in the world's second-largest market will run on a different model family for regulatory reasons — model choice is now a market-access decision, not just a technical one.
