Boston Dynamics unveils a four-finger, production-ready hand for Atlas
On 1 October 2026 Boston Dynamics unveiled a new hand for its Atlas humanoid: four fingers with no pinkie, 13 degrees of freedom and direct actuation, designed for mass manufacturing. The company says the focus has shifted from grasping a wide variety of objects to manipulating them and using tools, and that the hand is built for high-fidelity simulation to support sim-to-real reinforcement learning.
What it means A hand designed for manufacturing and simulation rather than human likeness suggests Atlas is being readied for production work, not demos.
