Claude Code switches to auto mode by default on August 14 for Pro, Max, and Team plans

Anthropic said on August 7, 2026 that new Claude Code sessions on Pro, Max, and Team plans will run in auto mode from August 14, enabling longer stretches of autonomous work. Anthropic reports that in its own testing auto mode caught more dangerous commands than manual permission review, and it has stopped charging those plans for the classifier's extra tokens. Auto mode stays opt-in for now on Enterprise, the API, and the AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft platform integrations, which admins can review before it becomes the default there.

What it means If your team runs Claude Code, the permission behaviour changes under you on August 14 — decide now whether to pin your current default.
