GitHub Copilot gets an org-wide default for which models are switched on

From 26 August 2026, rolling through 1 September, Copilot Business and Enterprise administrators set one global model policy: any model an admin has not explicitly configured moves to delegate-to-default and follows that setting instead of carrying its own. Models an admin deliberately enabled or disabled keep that choice, and open-weight and data-retention models stay off regardless of the default.

What it means If you administer Copilot the default flips how every unconfigured model behaves, and the rollout finishes on 1 September — worth checking before rather than after.
