GitHub Copilot moves into Slack and Teams as a shared agent session

GitHub shipped two chat integrations on 21 August 2026. The Slack integration now carries the agentic capabilities of the Copilot command line and the Copilot app into Slack in public preview. In Microsoft Teams, mentioning GitHub in a channel, thread or direct message turns the discussion into a collaborative agent session the whole thread can watch and help direct.

What it means The agent session leaves the editor for the room where the team already talks, which makes steering it a group activity rather than one developer working alone.
