GitHub's HydraFusion, which routes each task across several models, reaches VS Code and the Copilot app

On 30 September 2026 GitHub expanded the HydraFusion research preview beyond Copilot CLI to VS Code 1.140 or later and the GitHub Copilot app. It sits in the model picker but orchestrates several models, choosing per task between a single model, a cascade in which an efficient model drafts and a quality gate decides whether to escalate, and a critique loop in which a model from a different family reviews the draft once. Organisation admins may need to allow preview features first.

What it means Model routing with an escalation gate and cross-family review is now a picker option rather than something teams have to build themselves.
