Jeff Dean and other top AI researchers are leaving Google to launch their own startup

Google's chief scientist Jeff Dean and a group of senior AI researchers are departing to found a startup focused on using machine learning to accelerate scientific discovery, TechCrunch reported on August 5, 2026. Dean spent over two decades at Google and co-designed much of its core AI infrastructure.
