Microsoft Research introduces Quine, an AI research system for biology

Microsoft Research announced Quine on 29 September 2026, a multimodal world model of biology combined with a harness that connects models, scientific tools, literature and researchers. Working with the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT, the team used it to rank compounds predicted to shift tumour states and validated several top candidates in wet-lab assays. Access is through a fellows programme, and Microsoft says it is for research use only.

What it means This is an AI scientific harness with results checked in the wet lab, a step beyond benchmark-only claims.
