Nvidia is reported to be nearing a $12.9B acquisition of Hugging Face

The Information reported on 26 August 2026 that Nvidia had agreed to buy Hugging Face for about $12.9 billion, with CNBC, Bloomberg and Fortune following the next day. No signed agreement had been confirmed and reporting noted the deal could still fall apart. Hugging Face last raised $235M in 2023 at a $4.5B valuation, in a round Nvidia itself joined.

What it means Hugging Face is where most teams get open-weight models and datasets; who owns that default distribution point is a supply question for anyone self-hosting.
