NVIDIA launches an Open Agent Safety Platform, pairing an open-source runtime with a hardware watchdog

On 28 September 2026 NVIDIA announced its Open Agent Safety Platform. OpenShell is open-source software that traces every agent action and enforces policy at runtime. Sentry is a reference design that runs on BlueField-4 DPUs to monitor agents out of band and quarantine any that try to leave their boundaries. NVIDIA says OpenShell can be extended to Arm and Intel platforms and lists partners including Anthropic, Microsoft, Cisco and CrowdStrike.

What it means Agent containment is moving into the infrastructure layer; teams deploying autonomous agents should watch whether OpenShell becomes a de facto runtime boundary.
