Twitch will train generative AI on streams by default, and its product chief says opt-in would have failed

Amazon said on 12 August 2026 that Twitch will use creators' stream recordings, audio and video, to train generative AI models by default. The opt-out sits in channel settings under the security-and-privacy tab as "training for generative AI", not in the creator dashboard. Twitch chief product officer Mike Minton was blunt about the default: "If this was opt-in, nobody would opt in. That's honestly the answer." The company framed the announcement as adding an opt-out setting rather than as a new data-usage practice.

What it means Anyone publishing to a platform they do not own should read this as the template: the consent default flips first, the setting is real but buried, and the framing is that nothing changed.
