XCENA and Samsung ship a CXL card that is 2TB of memory and 3,072 RISC-V cores

Chips and Cheese covered XCENA’s MX1 "Memory Xcelerator" on 30 August 2026: a PCIe 6 / CXL 3.2 x8 card carrying up to 2 TB of DDR5 and 3,072 RISC-V cores in 24 independent subsystems, built on Samsung 4nm, drawing 40W for the chip and about 90W for a four-DIMM board, and offering roughly 3 TFLOPS of dot-product throughput at 128 GB/s to the host. Unlike processing-in-memory designs it presents as an independent accelerator over its own memory pool, so there is no mode switch for the host to manage, and it can front SSDs as expandable memory with DRAM as cache.

What it means Memory capacity, not FLOPS, is what caps how large a model a single box can serve — and CXL cards with their own compute are the cheapest route to more of it.
